ABOUT US

Proud to be the first established department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT), the Faculty of Food Science & Technology (FST) comprises 07 majors (Food Science, Food Safety and Quality ManagementPost-harvest Technology; Food Engineering, Food Technology, Aquatic Products Processing Technology, Food Business Administrations and Customer Research) along with a Center for Application and Technology Transfer in Food Technology under the department.. The total number of staffs, lecturers, and employees is 73, including 66 experienced lecturers with many years of practical experience in factories and enterprises in the field of food technology (Associate Professors: 01 person; PhD holders: 20 people, accounting for 27.4%; Masters: 49 people, accounting for 67.12%;) and 04 engineers.

Currently, the Faculty of Food Science & Technology has been entrusted by the university to train engineers, bachelor's degrees, and technicians in the fields of Food Technology, Food Quality and Safety Assurance, Seafood Processing Technology, and Food Business Administration, with over 4,000 students enrolled in various training programs including regular undergraduate, associate degree, master's and doctoral programs in Food Technology. Particularly noteworthy, the department was the first institution to open the Food Quality and Safety Assurance and Food Business Administrations and Customer Research, two newly established fields of study in Vietnam, attracting significant attention from enterprises and society.

Students in the department receive theoretical education in well-equipped lecture halls and gain hands-on experience with modern and advanced laboratory equipment. In addition to fundamental knowledge in the field, students are updated with advanced knowledge in food quality management, food safety, product development, etc., through short-term training courses, scientific seminars, and specialized conferences and workshops.

In addition to regular training programs, for many years, the Food Technology department has been a leading institution in providing short-term training programs to meet the demands of society. The department has established close partnerships and provided training for tens of thousands of professionals, engineers, and workers from food processing companies nationwide such as Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (VINAMILK), Kinh Do Joint Stock Company (Sai Gon and Binh Duong Branch), Orion Group;  Tan Quang Minh Manufacture and Trading Company Limited – Bidrico Beverage; Sai Gon Beverage Company (SABECO), Golden Hope Oil Company, Thanh Thanh Cong Tay Ninh JSC (former Bourbon Tay Ninh Sugar factory), Nestle, Acecook Vietnam Company, Vifon, Tuong An Vegetable Oil Joint Stock Company, Tan Binh Vegetable Oil Joint Stock Company, Cai Lan Vegetable Oil Joint Stock Company, Coca Cola VietNam, FrieslandCampina VietNam (Dutch Lady brand), Sai Gon Cigarette Company, Chuong Duong Beverage Joint Stock Company... The number of trainees in corporate training programs have been continually increasing to support the positive feedbacks from trainees.

 

With its strength as the only specialized university in the country in the field of food technology, the Faculty of Food Science & Technology are among the top choices for many individuals when considering their future career paths.

- Certificate of Merit from the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in 2006 and 2022

- Since December 16, 2022, the Higher Education Review Board (HERB), under the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) - USA, has officially recognized the Food Technology program of the Faculty of Food Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, as meeting the university education standards for the food industry for the period 2023-2028. This program will be annually monitored by IFT-HERB throughout this cycle.
