MISSION
Wearing the vibrant red uniform symbolizing passion and dynamism, SDC carries the mission of helping HUIT students develop debating skills, exchange knowledge, and explore highly practical and engaging academic topics. Here, students are empowered to shine—confidently expressing their viewpoints and learning how to defend them effectively.
OBJECTIVES
With the desire to equip students with knowledge, inspire learning, and promote holistic personal development, SDC strives toward the following goals:
1. Create a meaningful and engaging learning environment where students gain knowledge through exciting activities rather than dry theory.
2. Develop public speaking skills, helping members become more confident and overcome psychological barriers when presenting their ideas logically and persuasively.
3. Build a connected community where students can expand friendships, exchange ideas, and grow together.
4. Enhance critical thinking and logical reasoning skills, vital abilities in all fields. Through debates, members learn to analyze issues from multiple perspectives, gaining a deeper and more comprehensive understanding.
5. Develop problem-solving skills, enabling students to tackle academic and real-life challenges with confidence and effectiveness.
MEMORABLE MILESTONES WITH SDC
Although SDC is the youngest club of the Faculty of Food Technology, it has continuously strived and successfully organized numerous meaningful academic activities for FST students. Each event not only provides opportunities for members to grow but also demonstrates SDC’s enthusiasm in fostering scientific thinking and debating skills.
The seminar “Six Thinking Hats”, held in November 2024, is one of the club’s signature activities. The session introduced and practiced the “Six Thinking Hats” method, helping students develop multidirectional thinking, teamwork skills, and mutual respect in discussions. The event received highly positive feedback and motivated SDC to continue organizing more educational topics.

SDC also regularly hosts internal debate sessions, providing members with opportunities to practice, enhance their skills, and gain exposure to diverse real-life topics.
In May 2025, SDC successfully organized “FST DEBATE 2025 – Season 2”, attracting 60 student teams from the Faculty of Food Technology in a competition lasting over four months. This significant journey allowed SDC to connect with and support teams as they showcased increasingly sharp debating skills and arguments.
