On the afternoon of July 26, 2022, the Faculty of Food Science and Technology - Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, held a thematic session "Science-Based Food Safety Governance" with the participation of representatives from the state management agency on food safety, many food production and processing enterprises, lecturers from friends schools and nearly 300 students of the faculty. Professor Liesbeth Jan Arlette Jacxsens led the seminar - an expert in the field of Food Safety Management, lecturer at the Department of Food Technology - Food Safety and Health, Faculty of Biotechnology., Ghent University, Belgium, with the support of Dr. Phan Thi Kim Lien - representative of VN2017TEA -VLIRUOS project, member of ISM - International Society for Mycotoxicology, Lecturer at Faculty of Food Science and Technology - HUFI .

After the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Nguyen Doan Duy - Dean of Faculty of Food Science and Technology gave Professor Liesbeth a souvenir along with a bouquet of fresh flowers to express his gratitude on the occasion of Teacher's Day. Professor came to Vietnam to visit and work at HUFI and hope to continue welcoming her to participate in more activities at the faculty in the future.

In the spirit of widely sharing research results and experiences on Risk analysis and assessment based on scientific and applied data to identify food safety management strategies that have been and are being implemented Currently, at Ghent University, Professor Liesbeth brings in-depth insights into food safety management activities such as (1) Scientific evidence-based risk assessment - data collection (quantitative approach, exposure assessment…) (2) Criteria and factors for selecting control measures. Multi-criteria decision making in risk management. (3) Risk reduction strategies in risk management in Europe.

The information shared by the professor on the topic provides a new perspective in risk assessment and food safety management, helping the regulatory agencies as well as the food production enterprises of Vietnam, closer access to in-depth research results in the laboratory, gradually translating research achievements into specific strategies to ensure food safety, improve quality and serve people's lives.

Accompanying Professor Liesbeth Jan Arlette Jacxsens in many studies on the effects of mycotoxins on agricultural and food products in Vietnam, Dr. Phan Thi Kim Lien accumulated a lot of experience and knowledge related to the field of food safety management, especially with the risk group from mycotoxins on rice. Coming to the seminar, Ms. Kim Lien shared in detail the results of the research team on the status of mycotoxin contamination on some rice products in the Mekong Delta in the period 2017-2019. ; on that basis, assess the risks of these toxins in rice on food safety and consumer health, and plan effective strategies to limit mold contamination on rice products in the Mekong Delta.

The content shared by experts at the topic is an issue that representatives of state management agencies on food safety and food manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam are very interested in today. How effective is the risk assessment of food safety hazards, how are these risks quantified, and what useful measures are identified to respond to the real situation? The question is gradually being clarified. For lecturers, HUFI students and your school, the knowledge shared on the topic are interesting and useful. Thematic content is also a valuable source of information for reference when updating the training program's content in the fields of Food Technology, Quality Assurance, and Food Safety for the faculty and the school in the future.
