Kyungpook National University Visits Hochiminh City University of Food Industry To Further Collaboration In Food Science and Technology

On August 7th 2019, Prof. Kang Woo Won from the College of Science and Technology, Kyungpook National University (KNU) visited the Faculty of Food Science and Technology (FST), Hochiminh City University of Food Industry (HUFI) to further collaboration activities and discuss joint future projects in the field of food science and technology.

Kyungpook National University was a high-ranking institution founded in 1946. The university comprises of 17 colleges and 68 departments with the total enrolled students of 36,000 including 30,000 undergraduate and 6,000 graduate students. KNU ranked 1st among Korean National Universities (2018).

Prof. Kang Woo Won introduced Kyungpook National University

 

Prof. Kang was warmly welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Le Thi Hong Anh- Dean of FST, Heads of 5 Departments and Faculty Research Centre.

Opportunities for potential collaboration were discussed thoroughly during the discussion session. Both College of Science and Technology (KNU) and Faculty of Food Science and Technology (HUFI) share academic interests and resources to promote collaborative activities, which include:

 

1. Exchange student programme: The programme will start in 2020. Five FST exchange students will study at KNU each semester with tuition fees will be covered entirely by KNU. Student will take 15-18 credit hours and receive official transcripts from both HUFI and KNU.

2. Capacity building: KNU professors will give lectures in short-term training courses at FST.

3. Doctoral thesis co-supervisor: KNU professors will be involve in FST PhD candidate’s research project as a co-supervisor.

4. Workshop co-organizers: Both parties will conduct workshop or conference based on shared interest in education, training and research.

5. Postgraduate scholarship: KNU professors will assist FST lecturers and students to apply for postgraduate scholarships at KNU.

6. Joint research: Both parties will develop collaborative research in the field of food science and technology.

After the discussion session, Prof. Kang participated in a tour of the Centre of Scientific Instrument and visited University Dormitory.

Prof. Kang and Assoc. Prof. Anh looked forward to determining the best opportunities for action-oriented next steps to deepen the collaboration between the College of Science and Technology (KNU) and the Faculty of Food Science and Technology (HUFI) in the field of food science and technology.
