Faculty Of Food Science & Technology (FST) Students Shine In Euréka 2018

In the 20th anniversary of Euréka- The prize for students’ researches (1999-2018), dated 24th Nov 2018, the 20th Eureka prizes announcement was organized in The Student's Cultural House of HCMC.

The Euréka prize for students’ researches was established by HoChiMinh Youth Union and HCMC National University to honor the best researches and innovations of students ; to measure the quality of university educational programs as well as to promote the students to figure out solutions, ideas and innovation and contribute to the country.

The 20th Euréka started from Jul 2018 and completed in Nov 2018 and received 903 researches from 2263 students, from 106 universities and college. 165 best researches went to final round and 100 prizes were granted, including 1st prize (11), 2nd prize (11). 3rd prized (15) and 63 consolation prizes and total award was 336.000.000 VND.

Passing all the strict review, validation in faculty then university level, 11 researches of 46 students represented HUFI to join the Euréka competition in 4 sectors: Food technology, Agriculture, Chemical & Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology & Medical. 3 researches entered final round and finally granted 3 awards : 1st prize (2) and 2nd prize (1).

The 1st prize of Agriculture sector was granted to the research named “Extraction and purification of Fucoidan from Kappaphycus alvareii” , done by student Dinh Thi Huyen, Nguyen Thi Minh Chi, Le Thi My Ngoc & Nguyen Pham Cam Tien, under the guidance of Ms Hoang Thi Ngoc Nhon (lecturer) . The scientific committee was highly evaluated this innovative and practical research, as it enable the use the local food materials to produce bioactive substances, which is applicable in both medical and pharmaceutical 

   


FST Students & 1st prize for Extraction and purification of Fucoidan from Kappaphycus alvareii”

 

 Glinus oppositifolius (L.) is just a wild plants in tropical countries, however it contain the substances named Triterpensaponin, which can help to prevent and cure some brain diseases. To facilitate the benefit of Glinus oppositifolius (L.), 4 students Phung Thi Ngoc Huyen, Nguyen Thi Huong Lan, Truong Trong Nguyen, Nguyen Thi Thu Thao and lecturer Hoang Thi Truc Quynh studied and finalized the production process to make instant powder of Glinus oppositifolius (L.)  This product and process can also help the farmer to explore the market for this wild plants. In Euréka 2018, the research named “Production of Glinus oppositifolius (L.)  instant powder, containing bioactive substance named Triterpensaponin”.was granted 1st prized of Food technology sector.

Moreover, the 2nd prize of Food Technology sector was also granted to FST students (Truong Duc Thang, Le Thi Hanh Quyen, Hoang Thi Thuy Hang, Nguyen Thien Luan and lecturer Lieu My Dong) , The research “Production of symbiotic bread” study the application of probiotic bacteria in high temperature processing (e.g bread). The results prove that Alginate combined with Maltodextrin and Xanthan gum can make the probiotic bacteria survive through the baking process and also support the bacteria live in stomach.
