On April 11, 2026, at Hall C, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (HUIT), the Faculty of Food Science and Technology successfully organized the Final Round of the "Student Scientific Research" competition for the 2025–2026 academic year. The event was attended by the Faculty Board, the Board of Judges, the Organizing Committee, and over 400 students from the Faculty of Food Science and Technology successfully.
This competition is an annual academic activity aimed at promoting scientific research movements among students while creating an environment for exchange and learning between students, scientists, experts, and businesses. This year, the competition attracted 39 teams with 39 diverse topics characterized by high creativity and practical application. Following a rigorous and impartial preliminary round, the Board of Judges selected the 12 most outstanding projects to advance to the final round.
In the decisive round, the research groups demonstrated strong professional competence, creative thinking, and practical application skills in the fields of Food Technology and Nutrition. The projects held not only academic value but also aimed at solving practical issues in production and daily life.
Official Results
The Organizing Committee awarded the main prizes as follows:
- First Prize: Team FST-101 with the topic: "Application of green extraction methods in extracting anthocyanins and polyphenols from mangosteen peel," contributing to the utilization of agricultural by-products and sustainable development.
- Second Prize: Team FST-086 with the topic: "Research on the combined application of cold plasma and aloe vera – chitosan coating in banana preservation," opening new directions in post-harvest agricultural preservation.
- Third Prize: Team FST-099 with the topic: "Research on the microencapsulation process of astaxanthin from shrimp shells and preliminary application of astaxanthin preparations in food," demonstrating creativity in exploiting seafood by-products.
Consolation Prizes were awarded to:
- FST-072: Lutein extraction from Gac fruit and its application in food.
- FST-091: Production of resistant starch from purple sweet potatoes using microwave and enzyme techniques.
- FST-084: Modification of polysaccharides from Chaetomorpha aerea algae using the carboxymethylation method.
All projects reflected a focus on exploiting natural raw materials, enhancing the value of agricultural and seafood products, and developing health-beneficial products.
Special Awards
The Organizing Committee also presented sub-awards to provide comprehensive recognition of the teams' capabilities:
- Media Award: Sponsored by businesses for the YouTube channel "Student Scientific Research – Faculty of Food Science and Technology – HUIT," awarded to team FST-079 for the topic: "Research on the production process of extract from Fig fruit (Ficus auriculata)," showcasing the ability to effectively spread science on digital platforms.
- Best Presentation Award: Awarded to team FST-072, recognizing their confident, professional presentation style and persuasive communication skills.
- Most Favorite Award: Voted by the audience through stickers, awarded to team FST-074, proving the project's appeal and community connection.
The competition concluded successfully, leaving a significant mark on the scientific research movement of the students at the Faculty of Food Science and Technology. With large-scale participation, the competition serves not only as a meaningful academic playground but also as a vital platform for discovering and nurturing creative ideas, contributing to the training of high-quality human resources for the future Food Technology industry.
